NUMEROUS, AUDACIOUS OFFENCES
YOUNG MAN CHARGED (United Press Association) DUNEDIN, June 24. “His offences were numerous and audacious,” stated Chief Detective Young when Francis Charles de Bazin, aged 24, appeared for sentence in the Police Court on 16 charges of theft which, together with an additional count on which he had been sentenced to four months’ gaol, involved property valued at £213.
The chief detective stated that when the accused was sentenced, these other charges had been adjourned to allow arrangements to be made for the disposal of the crib which the accused had built with the proceeds of the theft. His term of imprisonment expired today. Only £49 of the stolen property was recovered and the crib found no buyer. The Magistrate admitted the accused to three years’ probation and restitution of £163 is to be made.
