MORE MOTOR-VEHICLE OWNERS

The number of motor-vehicles registered in May last, 3105, represents tire highest point ever reached in that month since the inception of the national licensing system, although May of last year came close with its total of 3001. These figures are composed almost entirely of new vehicles placed on the roads, and they include only 119 motor-cycles. There has also been great activity in the motor-vehicle “turnover,” the changes of ownership registered in May reaching the big total of -14,520. The bulk of the annual relicensing was completed on May 31 and the results are now being entered on the complete register of all motor-vehicles in the Dominion which is kept in Wellington. Preliminary figures taken out by the Transport Division of the Post Office show an increase in ' ownership to the extent of at least 15 per cent, compared with the reiicensmg totals of 1937.
