Marriage Offered By Girl

If a “great teacher” can be found to train her voice, a Canadian coloured girl is willing to marry him, provided he is “passing good looking.” She has written to the Lord Mayor of London asking for his help. The Lord Mayor,. Sir Harry Twyford, read her letter at the dinner in London of the Grenadier Guards Comrades’ Association.

The girl stated: “Dear sir, I am a very attractive coloured girl, medium complexion, aged 21, and with a university education. “I have an excellent singing and speaking voice, and desire to be trained by a great teacher. I hope you will find a patron or patroness for me interested in my future. “I am willing to work to help defray expenses, and will even marry a man of any race, creed or colour who will guarantee to help me in my career, although I would rather not. “However, if it did come to that, I want him to be passing good-looking, and fairly prosperous.”
