SCHOOL COMMITTEE REPORT OF HEAD MASTER A report from the head master to' a meeting of the Edendale School Committee stated that the attendance at the school was being well maintained. The resumption of the cocoa club was welcomed by the pupils, and was being capably administered by the teachers. There were present: Messrs F. McKenzie (chairman), R. Caldwell (secretary), A. Dotting, M. Turner, E. Christianson, W. Kennedy and R. Patterson.
The report of the two visiting members of the committee for the previous month (Messrs Turner and Christianson) was presented. Recommendations for the improvement of the hedges, trees, fencing and garden plotting were submitted and considered.
Consideration was given to obtaining permission to erect a stop-rail in front of the school front gate as a safety measure against children running through the gate from school and on to the road, where there was considerable motor traffic. It was left to Mr Kennedy to approach the Automobile Association (Southland) for assistance.
The provision of goal-posts for the school football ground was considered and it was left to Messrs F. McKenzie and A. Botting to arrange for their installation.
It was stated that the school piano, although tuned fairly recently, was in need of attention and an examination of the structure of the instrument. The secretary was instructed to take the necessary action to ascertain the cost of having the piano put in good order. Messrs F. McKenzie and A. Botting
were elected a visiting committee for the ensuing month. A letter was received from the Boys’ Band, Invercargill, offering to give a concert performance at a convenient opportunity. The secretary was instructed to acknowledge the offer and state that the offer will be kept in view-
