HEAVY RAIN AT PORT
WORK INTERRUPTED ON WHARVES
Heavy rain fell at Bluff yesterday and proved a serious check to operations on the waterfront. Frequent showers were responsible for little progress being made during the day 5 but work was continued for a time last evening. The Waipiata, which was scheduled to sail for Timaru yesterday, will now probably leave today. BAND OF HOPE At a meeting of the Bluff branch of the Band of Hope the Rev. T. A. Speer presided over a big attendance. After a talk on temperance by Mr Speer the children presented the following programme:—Recitations, June Gibson, Shirley Andersen, Valmai Gilson, Betty Montgomery and Alison Winter; dual recitation, William Johnston and L. Callam; group recitation, “Lochinvar, ’’ Valarie Robinson, Helen Cameron, Isabel Muir, Annie Bulling, Rata Coote, Rita Calder and Peter Andersen; mouth organ band, A. Lee (conductor), W. Johnston, L. Callan, A. Hart, J. Mutch, R. Cheyne, C. Jones, N. Montgomery and B. Thompson; guitar items, Bernard and Annie Bulling; tap dance, S. Hart and V. Robinson; vocal duets, I. Cheyne and F. Denny, A. Hart and L. Callam; Standard IV choir, “Far Away,”'Noeleen Perkins (conductor); play, “The Sleeper Awakened,” pupils of Standard V and VI. The accompanistes were Misses E. Denny and S, Hart. HOTEL GUESTS Recent arrivals at the Club Hotel include Mr and Mrs Phelan and Messrs McGregor and Greenwood (Dunedin). Messrs E. Earp and D. Robertson (Wellington) and L. Robertson, J. Gilchrist and R. Cameron (Invercargill).
