GENERAL RICHARDSON AS ADMINISTRATOR
PROPOSED TRIBUTE TO MEMORY IN SAMOA (Received June 15, 5.5 p.m.) APIA, June 16. To perpetuate the memory of MajorGeneral Sir George Richardson, a former Administrator of Western Samoa, it is proposed to erect a memorial by public subscription, a bronze tablet or other form. Tributes are paid to the benefits of his administration, including his work for the banana industry. He started a hydro-electric plant and installed a town water supply. A wharf for -ocal shipping was built during his regime. Village water supplies, improved sanitation and gifts of land to necessitous villages are also mentioned as acts not forgotten by the Samoans. He identified himself with the religious and social life of the people among whom he lived and worked.
