BOWLS

JAMES MACPHERSON CLUB Following is the annual report of the James Macpherson Bowling Club, Waianiwa: — “There is a membership of 21. The past season was a very successful one as far as the weather was concerned. Although the club took no part in the various competitions run by the Southland Bowling Centre, it was favoured with eight non-competition matches with the various Invercargill clubs. These matches were both interesting and instructive to the members, and very little difficulty was experienced in filling three rinks for each of these games, which were held alternately at Invercargill and Waianiwa. The club was naturally beaten in every match, but by only small margins on several occasions. A number of non-competi-tion games were also played against Makarewa, Riverton, Winton and J. E. Watson’s (Invercargill) and these were very enjoyable. The standard of play has shown a big improvement on last season. A singles and a doubles championship were run by the club. The singles championship (a silver cup) was won by the youngest member, P. King, and the doubles by S. Driver and D. Macpherson.”
