FAREWELL PARTY AT OTAUTAU

PRESENTATION MADE TO GUESTS OF HONOUR

Before leaving for Timaru Mr and Mrs W. N. Buxton, Otautau, were given a farewell party in the Otautau Town Hall.

The function took the form of ' a dance, music being supplied by Mrs Cuppies and Mr R, L. Pettitt. Items were given by the following: Dance and recitation, Miss Beverley Braxton; solo, Mr Alex. Edwards; violin solo, Mr R. L. Pettitt.

Mr A. H. Lindsay, the chairman, explained the object of the gathering, and said that since Mr Buxton had gone to live in Otautau some years ago as an employee of the Wallace County Council he had associated himself with every worthy cause. Since their marriage Mrs Buxton had ably assisted her husband, and everyone regretted their departure. Mr Buxton had always taken a keen interest in sport, and as a football player had represented Western District, Country and Otautau. Last year he had successfully coached the junior fifteen. The speaker .wished Mr and Mrs Buxton happiness in their new home, and, on behalf of those present, asked them to accept a wallet of notes. Other speakers were Dr W. B. Reekie on behalf of the citizens, Mr R. B. Whitehead, for the cricket club, and Mr R. R. Walker on behalf of the Otautau Athletic Society. BRILLIANT BALL AT WYNDHAM WOMEN’S ' HOCKEY CLUB ENTERTAINS The Wyndham Town Hall was the scene of a brilliant function when members of the Wyndham Ladies’ Hockey Club held their annual ball which is always one of the most popular dances of the season. There was a big attendance, and the decorations .of gaily coloured streamers and tiny flags made a vivid background for the women’s bright frocks. The Syncopaters Dance Band Provided the music, and Mr John Halliday played the supper extras. The masters of ceremonies were Messrs Robert McKay, M. R. Milbum, J. Harper and Alex Marshall. Two novelty dances were held, the prizes being' won by Mr W. Latham and Miss Cochrane (lucky spot) and Mr Moir and Miss Maguire (Monte Carlo). Some of those present were Mesdames H. W.
