MEMBER SUSPENDED AT CANBERRA
ACTING MINISTER NAMED BY SPEAKER
CANBERRA, June 16.
The acting Minister of Commerce (Mr A. G. Cameron), was suspended after a scene in the House of Representatives.
This is the first occasion in the history of the Commonwealth Parliament that a Minister has been suspended. Mr Cameron’s offence was that he described Mr Wilson, an Independent Country Party member, as a “clean skin” and when he refused to withdraw he was named by Mr Speaker. His suspension was moved by the Prime Minister (Mr J. A. Lyons).
Mr Cameron will be free to return to the House today and the episode will have no-repercussions.
