PROVINCIAL LAWS IN CANADA
CHECK URGED IN SENATE AT OTTAWA (Received May 19, 7.40 p.m.) OTTAWA, May 18. In the Senate the Leader of the Opposition (Senator Arthur Meighen) demanded that the Dominion exert its authority in the provinces to meet “crises threatening the disintegration of the Dominion.” “Provincial legislation, even if constitutional, can be disallowed in favour of the public good,” he said. Repudiation was rampant, and as a result industry was paralysed, because none was willing to invest money, Particularly in Alberta under a Social Credit Government.
