THURSDAY (Before his Honour Mr Justice Kennedy) The following petitions for divorce were heard yesterday: Thelma Isabella Churstain (Mr B. W. Hewat) petitioned for divorce from John Francis Churstain on the grounds of separation. A decree nisi was granted, to be made absolute at the expiration of three months, the petitioner to have interim custody of the children. Christiana Elizabeth Preston (Mr M. H. Mitchel) petitioned for divorce from George Patrick Preston on the grounds of separation. A decree nisi was granted, to be made absolute after the expiration of three months, pctitioner to have custody of the child. William George Thompson (Mr Eustace Russell) petitioned for divorce from Margaret Evelyn Thompson (Mr N. L. Watson) on the grounds of. separation. A decree nisi was granted to be made absolute at the expiration of three months. Sybel Gertrude Crosado (Mr G. Cruickshank) petitioned for a divorce from Fred Charles Crosado on the grounds of separation. A decree nisi was granted, to be made absolute at the expiration of three months, the petitioner to have interim custody of the child. May Amos (Mr N. L. Watson) was granted a decree absolute in her divorce from Andrew Amos, the petitioner to have custody of the child. PRISONERS SENTENCED AT WELLINGTON (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 19. In imposing a sentence of three months’ imprisonment with hard labour on William James Gilbert, aged 25, found guilty of common assault on a Hindu, Mr Justice Reed said: “Your assault on this inoffensive Indian was simply the act of a larrikin and a bully and deserves to be punished accordingly.” , Gilbert said: “I can t help feeling I have served nearly three weeks’ imprisonment on remand and it has also put me to a great deal of expense.” Charlie Rangi, aged 26, was sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment with hard labour on a charge of breaking and entering with intent to commit a crime. To prisoner’s appeal for another chance the judge reminded him that he had not availed himself of chances in the past. William Clarence Carroll, aged 26, for forging and uttering was ordered to come up if called upon within two years. Cyril Ernest Broorrj, for theft, was granted two years’ probation and William Robert Thomson, for negligent driving and causing death, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labour.
