Enterprise Finds Expression In New Building
Early next week the Southland Building and Investment Society will transfer to new offices in Tay street on the site formerly occupied by the Southland Hardware Company. The exact day when the change will be made is not yet known, but it is expected that it will be Wednesday. There will be no official opening ceremony. Representative not only of the great progress of a longestablished and highly-important city business house, but of the progress of commercial activities in Invercargill, the new buildings will make an outstanding contribution to the architectural dignity of the business area of the city. The progress of the Southland Building Society is linked with that of Invercargill itself. Indeed, it was not until two years after the formation of the Southland Building Society that a Municipal Corporation came into existence. Since then the story of each has been the same—substantial progress and sound achievement. An outline of the history of the society and the work it has accomplished since its formation 69 years ago is contained in these pages.
