COAL OUTPUT AT OHAI
RISE DURING LAST TWO WEEKS DECREASE EXPECTED TO BE OVERTAKEN “The fact that the Easter holidays were later than, in 1937 and that the mines were closed for one more day than in former years, made any comparison of output from April 1 to date, misleading and ineffective,” said the report of the general manager (Mr A. W. Rodger) to the meeting of the Ohai Railway Board. “While there was a decrease in haulage of 851 tons for the ; seven weeks, the output during the last two weeks had been considerably in excess of that for the corresponding weeks in 1937, indicating that the decrease would soon be overtaken.” Mr L. S. Edmond was chairman. The report of the traffic manager (Mr R. Donnelly) stated: — “Since the last meeting the permanent way gang has resumed resleepering the line between Wairio and Tinker’s siding. A start has been made by the bridge gang to raise the north end of the overhead bridge near Crawford’s, so as to bring the decking to a uniform grade across the bridge. The Benoni locomotiye (No. 3) is now in service to meet the increased coal traffic.”
The following gifts were granted:— Nightcaps, Ohai and. District Ambulance Committee, £5; Ohai School of Mines, £5; Nightcaps Public Library, £2 2/-.
