THE WEATHER COOL AND CHANGEABLE

(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, May 18. Following is the official weather forecast for Southland, issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate to strong south-west to southerly winds. Weather cool and changeable, with passing showers at many places. Temperatures coot Seas rather rough to rough. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather mainly fair at first, but clouding over and rain gradually developing in northern and western districts, with some heavy falls in ‘ the north. Temperatures fnild, but a cool change later in the south. General Situation.—The recent anticyclone ,is moving away eastward. A rather deep depression is advancing across the south Tasman, while'another is approaching Norfolk Island from the north. Pressure has risen over eastern Winds.—Moderate to strong northeast to northerly, reaching gale force in some exposed positions. A change to southerlies is beginning in the south tonight and gradually extending northwards. Seas.—New Zealand waters, rather rough to rough north of East Cape in the Cook and Foveaux Strait areas and south of Hokitika, elsewhere slight to moderate; eastern Tasman Sea,-mode-rate to strong northerly winds, but a change to south-westerlies advancing from the west and south-west, seas rather rough to rough. The weather in Invercargill yesterday was fine until about 5 p.m. when a heavy shower fell. The weather cleared in the evening, but a cold westerly wind sprang up. . At one o’clock this morning the weather was cold and rough and the sky was overcast. The barometer readings for the last three mornings have been as follows:— This morning (falling) 29.68 m Wednesday ■’ 29.96 in Tuesday 30.01 m
