Mr and Mrs W. Trembath, Palmerston, street, Riverton, have returned from a holiday in Hawke’s Bay. Miss M. Stewart, of Oamaru, is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs R. J. Stewart, Sandstone West. The Misses Meta, Nannie and Alma McLeod, of Otahuti, are spending a holiday at The Rocks, Riverton. Mrs L. W. Fulcher, Herbert street, with her daughter, Rosemary, returns tomorrow from a holiday at the Rocks, Riverton. Mr and Mrs D. McDonald, McNab, are spending a holiday with Mrs J. Bell, Riverton. Later they will visit Mrs D. McDonald, Otahuti. A kitchen afternoon was given Miss Eileen Harvey, of Haldane, before her marriage. The party took place in the Haldane hall, and the afternoon was enjoyed with games and other entertainments. Mrs O’Brian asked Miss Harvey to accept the gifts and Miss Harvey replied. Among those present were Mesdames W. Weir. H. Bennett, AV. Connor, C. Harvey, J. Harvey, T. O’Brian, C. Flint, R. Casey, J. Watson, A. Wybrow, J. Thomas, R. Sparks, Drake, W. Campbell, F. Carr, E. Trewin, T. Weir, R. Condon and R. Tillard; Misses E. Trewin, I. Trewin, A. Trewin, I. Bridgeman, R. Leith, E. Sparks, R. Sparks, B. Flint, O. Flint, A. Flint, N. O’Brian and I. Harvey. On a recent evening the residents of Granity met in the school room to bid farewell to Mr R. N. Wakeling, the teacher, who has been appointed to the Drummond school. Dancing, games and competitions were enjoyed, the music being supplied by Mr D. Brown and the school mouth organ band. Miss Shirley Bryant, a senior pupil, presented Mr Wakeling with a fountain pen on behalf of the pupils. She expressed the regret of the children at his departure and wished him luck in his new position. Mr J. Fairweather, chairman of the school committee, on behalf of the parents and residents, presented Mr Wakeling with a wallet of notes. He also expressed the regret of the residents at his departure and wished both Mr and Mrs Wakeling good luck for the future. Mr Wakeling responded. Miss Mavora Cavanagh, who is to be married next week, was met by members of the Invercargill Public Library staff yesterday and presented with a tea set. Reference to her excellent service during the 14& years that she had been in the library, was made by the librarian, Mr H. B. Famall, who wished her every happiness. Mr G. J. Reed, who was formerly chairman of the library committee, also congratulated Miss Cavanagh on her past work and thanked her on 'behalf of the City Council. The three senior members of the staff, Misses B. Ross, M. Keaney and Sheila S. McPherson, also spoke and referred to the esteem in which Miss Cavanagh was held and also to the manner in which she had carried out her duties. Mr Famall took advantage of the. opportunity to say farewell on behalf of the staff to Mr Reed, who had been chairman of the library committee for the last five years.
