EASTERN SOUTHLAND SUB-UNION MEETING OF MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE The secretary of the Albion club wrote to the meeting of the ment committee of the Eastern Southland Rugby Football Sub-Union last evening inquiring about the status of one of the Wyndham club’s players, Gibson, who had played in the AlbionWyndham second grade match at Gore on May 7. It had been reported to his club that Gibson was a first grade player and had not been regraded and that he had played for another club without a clearance. “Possibly this information is incorrect, but if this player played illegally, we formally protest against the Wyndham club, stated the letter. “This is the match which was recently awarded to Wyndham, because my club played two Pioneer players without transfers. ■ The secretary (Mr S. B. Taylor) said he had got in touch with the secretary of the Wyndham club who had informed him that no player named Gibson had played for his club. Also, there was no mention of Gibsons name in the referee’s report,” said Mr The chairman remarked that there must have been some misunderstanaIt was decided to receive the letter and to inform the Albion club that no one of the name of Gibson had played for Wyndham. There were present: Messrs J. vv. Aitken (chairman), H. G. Wallis, F. J. Townsend, J. A. Edwards, L. 1. Cockerill, J. Cunningham, J. M. F. M. Murray, A. H. Davidson, W. Forbes and N. McLeod. . A motion of sympathy was carried with the relations of Mr F. S. Graham, whose death occurred on Monday. Mr Graham was the sub-unions auditor for a number of years. A letter from the secretary of the Central Sub-Union requested the Eastern Sub-Union to fix dates for the senior and junior representative fixtures at Winton and Gore respectively. Mr Wallis said he thought the dates for representative matches were fixed too early. It was decided to hold the matter over until July. , The following transfers were granted: M. D. J. Weir, Mataura to Wyndham; J. Gibson, Edendale to Mataura. REFEREES FOR SATURDAY The Referees’ Association reported that the following referees had been appointed for Saturday’s matches:— First Grade.—Mataura v. Lumsden (Mr L. Wallis); Pioneer v. Albion (Mr L. Cockerill). Second Grade.—Mataura v. Pioneer (Mr R. Watson); Albion v. Wyndham (Mr J. Traynor). Third Grade—Albion v. Mataura (Mr J. Stickle); Wyndham v. High School (Mr J. Holt). Fourth Grade.—High School v. Mataura (Mr D. Leslie). MATAURA BEATS BALFOUR Playing at Balfour in the senior grade football competition, Mataura beat Balfour by 19 points to three. McCaughan, McGowan and Curry scored Mataura’s tries and L. G. Townsend potted a field goal. For Balfour Alan Stewart scored an unconverted try, Forbes failing to convert. Mr A. Stewart was referee. The following were the, teams:— MATAURA (black).— Heaps, Currie, McCaughan, O. Scobie, L. G. Townsend, J. Leitch, Wyeth, Adam, Renshaw, Clark, Pow, McKay, Gaudion, McGowan, Gibson. BALFOUR (maroon).—R. Creighton, D. Druce, J. Carson, N. Shallard, C. Hickey, A. Stewart, W. Stewart, L. Pringle, J. Robb, A. Cowie, N. Forbes, S. Keown, M. Chapman, D. McDonald, R. Gillespie. COMPETITION IN CENTRAL DISTRICT The matches to be played in the Central District football competition on Saturday, with home teams first mentioned, are as follows:— Senior.—Winton v. Drummond (Mr G. P. Martin); Central Star v. Dipton, at Browns (Mr A. R. Murphy). Junior. —Limehills v. Winton (Mr W. W. Sands); Turi v. Central Star (Mr J. A. Lindsay); Wrights Bush v. Dipton (Mr H. McDonald); Dipton a bye.
