HOLD-UP OF SHORT DURATION

COASTAL VESSELS RESUME NORMAL RUNNING (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 3. The hold-up of small coastal vessels at Wellington, comprising the Kaitoa, the Gale, the Kapiti, the Hawera and the Echo, which began yesterday, ended today when these vessels resumed running. The masters and officers of the ships in the coastal trade were dissatisfied with the conditions of their employment and in order to hold a meeting to discuss the matters, the presence of sufficient officers was necessary. This would not have been possible had all the ships continued running. The masters and officers met yesterday and today, and following further discussions, it was decided to meet the owners again. The ships thereupon took up their usual sailing times. Negotiations are still proceeding because of today’s meeting.
