Sales of gas for the year ended March 31 last were higher by £490 than those in the previous year according to the report of the gas manager (Mr W. B. O’Toole) presented to the Invercargill City Council last night. The receipts for the year were as follows, those for the previous year being given in parentheses:—Gas £21,040 (£20,549), coke £4346 (£4415), tar £616 (£375), fittings £l3Ol (£1456). The total receipts were £28,275 compared with £27,762 in the previous year. Cr A Scott, chairman cf the Trading Committee, said the returns were very satisfactory and showed that the gas works was by no means a dying concern.
