LORNEVILLE STOCK SALE

VALUES OF FAT SHEEP DEARER KEEN DEMAND FOR STORE LAMBS FAT CATTLE PRICES NOT CHANGED The size of the entries in most sections was very similar to last week at the Lorneville stock sale yesterday, the fat sheep section being smaller by about one-third. The fat cattle market was a good one with prices about on a par with those of the previous week except towards the end when values were slightly easier. In the fat cattle sale there was a good demand for steers at firm rates, but prices for empty cows were easier. There was keen competition in the fat sheep market, stimulated by the presence of country butchers and good quality ewes and wethers were about 2/- a head dearer than last week Freezing ewes were also about 1/- a head firmer. Fat lambs sold well at slightly above schedule rates. In the store sheep pens forward conditioned lambs were in keen demand at firmer prices than previously this season. STOKE CATTLE The yarding was a large one, there being a few pens of well bred steers and heifers varded, while the balance of the pens was made up of empty cows and light conditioned young cattle. FAT SHEEP AND LAMBS The entry of fat sheep, which was a fairly large one, comprised a few pens of good quality ewes and wethers, but mostly freezing ewes. For butchers' ewes and wethers, because of the presence of country butchers, there was a very keen demand and values compared with last week showed an improvement of about 2/- a head. Freezing ewes were also keenly sought and values for these were about 1/- a head dearer. Prime quality wethers realized from 28/- to 29/6, good quality 26/- to 27/-, medium 23/- to 24/-, light and unfinished down to 21/-; extra prime heavy young ewes up to 24/-, prime heavy weights 19/- to 21/-, good quality ewes 17/- to 18/-, medium 15/to 16/-, freezing ewes from 14/6 down to 10/-. MEDIUM YARDING AT McNAB CATTLE MEET WITH KEEN COMPETITION There was a medium yarding forward at the fortnightly McNab stock sale yesterday and a fair crowd of buyers was present. Sheep sold at prices on a par with those ruling at recent sales, while cattle met with keen competition, bringing good prices. Prime wethers realized irom 25/- to 26/-, and fat and forward two-tooth wethers brought 20/6. Prime bullocks made from £9 15/- up to £l2, and heifers brought from £8 to £9. Cows sold at £6 5/-.
