NEW ZEALANDER’S DEATH AFTER PLANE CRASH
MEDICAL EVIDENCE AT INQUEST (Received May 1, 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, April 30. At the inquest into the death of the New Zealander, Colin Byers, who died from injuries suffered in an aeroplane crash in Surrey, medical evidence showed that Byers lived for three days with a broken neck. The hearing was adjourned pending the Air Ministry’s inquiry. Two New Zealanders, Colin Dyers and Ernest Ratcliffe, were admitted to hospital after their aeroplane crashed in Surrey. A dozen policemen had to lift the aeroplane to extricate the occupants. Byers was trapped in the cabin. He warned the rescuers of the danger of the petrol tank catching fire. Ratcliffe received a broken thigh. He besought the rescuers to get his friend out first.
