PRESBYTERIAN SOCIAL SERVICE

MATRON OF ALLISON HOME RESIGNS A meeting of the Southland Presbyterian Social Service Association was held in the First Church vestry on Wednesday evening. Those present were the Rev. W. J. Robertson (chairman), the Rev. J. Chisholm, the Rev. R. Dunn, the Rev. J. A. Thomson and Messrs C. A. Stewart, D. McFadzien, W. Farnie, T. W. Richards, J. Holland, W. F. Bisset, A. Taylor, W. H. Boyes and J. Watt (superintendent). The resignation of Miss J. S. Taylor, who has been matron of the Allison Home for some time, was received. Miss Taylor has been appointed to a similar position in Christchurch. Applications have been called for the position and a special meeting of the executive committee will be held on March 24 to make an appointment.

The secretary of the Otago Presbyterian Social Service Association sought the financial support of the Southland Association towards the cost of having a fully ordained and experienced minister in the Seacliff parish. It was agreed to make a small donation towards the work and that the donation be increased later if the association was in a position to grant further help. The reports on the Allison and Cameron Homes showed that there were 37 children under the care of the association. The farm operations at the Allison Home were proceeding very well and there was an abundance of winter feed for the stock. The boys showed great interest in the farming operations and co-operated with Mr Brumby, the farm manager. It was decided to bring the activities of the association more prominently before the Deacons’ Court of the various churches and to seek a larger measure of support from them. Receipts for the month amounted to £167 17/6, and the expenditure was £2OO 9/-, the overdraft being £961 5/-. Accounts amounting to £122 4/11 were passed for payment
