Easing In Price Of Fat Cattle IMPROVED MARKET FOR PIGS (United Press Association) DUNEDIN, March 16. There was a big yarding of 375 head of fat cattle for .the Burnside stock sam today and the quality over all was better than it has been for some time. Despite this, prices were easier from the start and over the sale the easing was from 10/- to 15/- a head. Extra prime heavy bullocks made to £l6 7/6; prime £l3 5/- to £l4 12/6; medium £lO 10/- to £ll 15/- and light down to £B. Extra prime cows and heifers brought to £lO 12/6; pr* me £7 10/- to £8 15/-; medium £5 7/6 to £6 5/- and light down to £4. On a 1001 b basis cattle may be quoted at £1 14/- for best quality beef, £1 11/for prime bullocks, £1 10/6 for best cows and heifers and £1 3/- for poorer sorts. Only 150 store cattle were on offer, but the quality was poor and only a pen of good steers realized £7 2/6. The entry of fat sheep numbered 2162 head, butchers finding little other than ewes in suitable weights. Consequently, ewes of this type were a shade firmer than a week ago. Prime wethers made to £1 10/3, medium £1 4/- to £l*6/6 and light down to 19/-. Prime heavy ewes made to £1 1/9, prime 17/6 to 19/6, medium 13/6 to 15/- and light down to 9/-. There were only 865 fat lambs forward, with a few extra choice sorts included. Extra prime heavy lambs made to £1 12/-, prime £1 4/- to £1 7/-, medium 19/- to £1 3/- and light down to 17/-. The market for fat pigs was better than a week ago, a rise of 5/- a head being shown. Porkers were worth to £2 15/- and baconers to £4. ADDINGTON MARKET SLIGHT FALL IN PRICE OF BREEDING EWES (United Press Association)' CHRISTCHURCH, March 16. The total sheep entries _ at today’s Addington market approximated 42,000, of which about 30,000 were breeding ewes. These sold at a shade below recent ewe fair rates for all serviceable sorts, but for a big showing of aged ewes there was a poor sale. Good twotooths made from 29/- to 32/-, a top pen to 38/- and ordinary 23/- to 26/-. Store lambs.—These met with a sharp decline of about 2/- a head on a week ago. Best rape lambs made from 16/- to 18/-, medium 14/— to 15/6 and small and backward 9/- to 12/-. Fat lambs.—This section sold in accordance with the reduced export, schedule of a farthing per lb. Butchers paid slightly above this rate for weightier sorts. Fat sheep.—There was a moderate sized penning and an easing over the earlier stages by 2/- a head, but most of this drop was recovered in the later part of the sale. Best wethers sold from 27/- to 31/-, top pens to 32/7, medium to good wethers 23/- to 26/-, best ewes 19/- to 23/-, a top pen at 26/7, medium 16/6 to 19/- and inferior down to 11/-. Fat cattle.—Five hundred and sixtyfive were penned and there was a weaker market because of a heavy over-supply. Best beef made from 32/to 35/- per 1001 b and a few pens of tops to 37/-. Heayy prime steers sold from £l4 to £l6 17/6, good average steers £ll 10/- to £l3 10/-. Best of cows and heifers sold from £8 10/- to £ll 15/- and light heifers and cows down to £5. Fat pigs.—There was a short entry of porkers and a rise of about 3/-. Porkers made from 39/6 to 57/6, the average price per lb being from 6jd to 60d. Baconers made from 55/6 to £4 7/6, the average per lb being from 61 d to 6Jd. Store pigs.—There was a large entry and a drop in prices. Weaners made from 5/6 to 14/-, slips 15/- to 18/- and sores 20/- to 35/-.

SALE OF CLYDESDALE HORSES MR ANDREW GRANT’S STUD AT ALLANDALE (United Press Association) TIMARU, March 16. Buyers were present from all parts of New Zealand at a sale of horses from Mr Andrew Grant’s well-known Clydesdale stud at Allandale, Fairlie, today. The top price was 150 guineas for a three-year-old filly, Allandale Helen, which was purchased by Mr J. Harding, of Waipukurau. Two fiveyear mares realized 974 guineas. Mares sold particularly well, a two-year-old bringing 71 guineas. The top price for colts was 274 guineas. The sale included 42 horses, of which 38 went at auction. Mr R. Craig, of Palmerston North, took nine mares Mr J. McMurray, of Gore, five and Mr A. Freeth, Blenheim, four. Other sales ranged between North Auckland and Edendale, Southland.
