PLENTY OF RECRUITS FOR AIR FORCE
MORE THAN 4500 SINCE 1935 (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, February 25. The remarkable response last year among young men eligible for service as pilots in the Royal Air Force to the announcement of the increased number of vacancies to be filled as a result of the Government’s expansion programme has not only been equalled but beaten this year, when the number of vacancies was again larger. The Air Ministry announces that although the number of pilots required by the Royal Air Force during the present year, which ends on March 31, reached a total of 1750, the whole of that number had been obtained by the end of January. Of the total approximately 1300 had been accepted from candidates from civil life and the balance in accordance with normal policy are selected volunteers from serving airmen in the Royal Air Force. The total number of pilots who have been entered since 1935 now exceeds 4500.
