SOUTHLAND RETAINS COOKE BANNER INTERESTING MATCH AT DUNEDIN (Special to The Times) DUNEDIN, February 24. The annual match for the Cooke Banner - between teams representing the Otago and Southland Women’s Bowling Associations was played on the association’s green at Logan Park today Southland, the holder, beat Otago after a well-contested and interesting match. Each province was represented by six rinks. Details are as follows, Southland names being first:— Mesdames Damill, Balck, Smart and Pierce 31 beat Mesdames McDonald. Jack, Ansell and Braithwaite 9. Mesdames Lyng, Rushton, Woods and Excell 9 lost to Mesdames Ibbotson, Allan, R. Brown and Mullenger 27. Mesdames Smart, Grant, McKenzie and Kerr 20 beat Mesdames Wilson, Boult, Beveridge and Johnston 8. Mesdames Smith, Hay, Wedderspoon and Gavan 14 lost to Mesdames Muir, Butter, Knowles and McConnell 26. Mesdames Holmes, Cowie, Cooper and Holliman 27 beat Mesdames Pryde, Bruce, Bennett and Jackson 25. Mesdames Halloway, Nixey, Steel and Loudon 22 beat Mesdames Longworth, Hunt, Sparrow and Wallace 18.
