SLIPWAY AT BLUFF
CONDITION CRITICIZED BY BOARD MEMBER The condition of the Bluff Harbour Board’s slipway was criticized by the 1 Hon. T. F. Doyle at last night’s meetingof the board. He said that there was al big demand for the slipway, and _ although vessels could go up all right) they were getting stuck on the way down and valuable time was being lost. The slipway had been a bugbear for many years, but nothing had been done. Tire board was giving a very unsatisfactory service with the slipway and itwas most irritating to oyster merchants) who were putting their vessels on it. It) could be made workable with a little expenditure and he mentioned alterations that could be made. Mr Doyle suggested that water from, the town supply be provided, at the’ slipway and that a meter be installed. He also remarked that the accommodation for the oyster boats was limited) and urged that something be done to improve it. . The chairman (Mr W. A. Oft) saidthat the question raised by Mr Doyle would be looked into. He also stated that the finance committee would be, meeting this month to consider the! proposed harbour improvement scheme.
