SCHOLARSHIPS FOR YOUNG FARMERS
AWARDS ANNOUNCED BY JUDGES (United Pre-s Association) DUNEDIN, February 18. The selection committee, Mr A. C. Cameron, of Dunedin (chairman of the South Island Council of the New,Zealand Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs), Mr M. Smith (field superintendent of the Department of Agriculture) and Mr Alan Grant (farmer, Craighburn, Waimate) announces that it has awarded scholarships to the following young farmers:— Lincoln College Old Boys’ scholarship, 1938.—John Alan Ballingall, Palmerston. International Harvester Company’s scholarship, 1938.—1v0r G. Hurst. Waihaorunga, South Canterbury. Southland Frozen Meat Company’s scholarship, 1938, and two scholarships open to Southland young farmers only. —Arthur Sinclair Trotter (Woodlands) and James A. C. Hunter (Gore) New Zealand Refrigerating Company’s scholarship, 1938.—Herbert A. Duff, Edievale (second year) and Lawrence J. Mercer, Dunsandel (second year). The judges report that the entries included some of exceptional merit. Several promising boys were passed over because they had just left secondary schools. In the oninion of the judges it was advisable that to get the best out of Lincoln College those awarded scholarships should have had a number of years of practical experience first and should also have proved themselves keen club members.
