AMATEUR ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS

PROVINCIAL TITLE MEETING ON SATURDAY Amateur athletics will be seen at theii best at the Southland track and field championships at Rugby Park on Saturday. The leading athletes of Otago and Southland will be competing and a high standard of performances seems assured. The Otago team will this season be bigger and, probably, stronger than those of previous years. Twenty men and nine women athletes will make up the team, and, with big entries from Southland competitors, there should be some fine tussles for the various track and field titles. No fewer than 27 events are included in the programme, thus ensuring a constant variety of attractions for spectators. The track at Rugby Park is reported to be in first-class condition, a fact which should give the final measure of success to a meeting which promises to be the best for some years.
