CROQUET
FURTHER RESULTS FROM DUNEDIN The weather was again ideal for play in the Otago and South Island croquet tournament yesterday, when Mrs McLeod and Mrs Telfer went on to the lawns to play the final of three games in the ladies’ championship, each having won a game the previous afternoon. The first break was made by Mrs McLeod, who took full toll from Mrs Telfer, when she stuck in ,the fourth hoop and went from there to rover. Mrs Telfer took control and made seven hoops. In the final stages Mrs McLeod got in, going to rover with her yellow ball, but in attempting to peel her through she stuck in the hoop. She attempted to jump, hoping to touch the red and put it through. The shot failed and she allowed Mrs Telfer to get in. The latter went to the peg with black and in two turns went to rover with blue, where she balked, Mrs McLeod took the lift shot and missed a fairly short roquet, and Mrs Telfer, in two more turns, went on to the peg, running out the winner of this game by four points. Results:—
OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP Third Life.—Mrs McLeod beat J. Tannock, 26-14, 1-26, 26-15.
WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP Second Life Final.—Mrs Telfer beat Mrs McLeod, 0-26, 26-18, 26-22. INTER-ISLAND TEAM Mr R. W. McCreath was chosen as the selector for the South Island team at a meeting of players in the South Island tournament, held yesterday. This team will consist of six players, and will play against a team picked from North Island players during the Dominion tournament at Wanganui.
