WORK ON FOOTPATHS DISCUSSION ON ORDER OF URGENCY A report that under the Government’s subsidy scheme, four men had begun work preparing certain footpaths for tar-sealing was submitted to the monthly meeting of the Nightcaps Town Board. A discussion was held on the order of urgency of the footpaths being prepared. Commissioner T. Thomson said it was time the works committee took more interest in the board’s work. It should not leave such matters solely in the hands of the clerk. The chairman (Mr W. Excell) stated that every opportunity was given the works committee members of the board to discuss the proposed works. Commissioner' Thomson reiterated that members were not conversant with what was going or. and said that surely the clerk was net going to run the whole board. The Chairman: The clerk is carrying out instructions given by the chairman and these were tha; public utility footpaths were to be treated first If he had overstepped his duty in issuing the instructions, it was with no intention whatever of ignoring the other members. , , It was finally agreed that as many members as possibb should inspect the work at an early die and decide which footpaths were to to tar-sealed first. There were present:—Commissioners W. Excell (chairmin), T. Thomson, B. Rushton, F. Boyle, F. Klemick, J. C. Wilson and E. Maison. RESULT OF LOAN POLL The clerk reported the result of the poll on the loan prcposals, as follows:— Hall loan.—For, 56; against, 13. Tar sealing main highways.—For, 60; against, 9. The chairman said that the poll had been very heavy, but the voting had been decisive. Mr J. Lawton forwarded his resignation from the position of surfaceman because of ill-health. The resignation was accepted with regret and the ho»e was expressed that Mr Lawton wouli be restored to health. It was decided to fix the half holiday i as at present, on Saturday.
