THE WEATHER WIND STRONG AT TIMES IN EXPOSED POSITIONS

WELLINGTON, January 13.

Following is the official weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Westerly to north-westerly winds, light to moderate mainly, but strong at times in exposed positions. A few scattered showers in coastal and western areas, but weather for the most part fine and warm. Seas rather rough at times, but mainly slight to moderate.

Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather fine generally, with warm temperatures. Later some showers developing in south Westland and

the far south. General Situation.—An intense anticyclone still lies centrally over the Dominion and is moving slowly eastwards, while a depression located over the sovth-west Tasman appears to be filling up. Winds. —South-easterly to easterly north of Kawhia and Napier, elsewhere variable, but with north-westerlies predominating, force mainly light to moderate, but freshening somewhat at times in the far south and also about Cook Strait. Seas. —New Zealand waters, rather rough at times about Cook and Foveaux Straits, otherwise slight to moderate; eastern Tasman Sea, easterly winds in the northern portion and northerly to north-westerly in the southern portion, force light to moderate generally, with slight to moderate seas.
