The Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry), who will represent New Zealand at the Australian 150th anniversary celebrations in Sydney, will leave Wellington for Auckland on Monday night to join the Awatea, which sails on Tuesday.—Press Association.
Mr C. M. Turrell, general manager of the Now Zealand Shipping Company, Limited, arrived in Invercargill bv car yesterday and will return north 'this morning. Mr Turrell has just returned from a trip to England and is making a tour of inspection of the company’s branches. Mr W. J. A. McGregor, of Mount Linton,’ arrived in Invercargill last night from Auckland where he attended the wedding of his son. Mr A. W. Rodger returned to Invercargill from Wellington by the express last night.
Lieutenant-Colonel N. S. Falla, chairman of Union Airways, has been seconded to the Royal New Zealand Air Force for duty with the Territorial Air Force. He has been granted the rank of honorary group captain.—Press Association.
At the annual meeting at Dunedin of the Senate of the University of New Zealand the Chancellor, the Hon. J. A Hanan, extended a special welcome to Dr Sylvia Chapman, of Wellington, who has the distinction of being the first woman to be appointed to a seat on the Senate.
