KENNINGTON

HEAVY FALL OF RAIN LITTLE HAY SAVED THIS SEASON Heavy rain fell throughout the Kennington district during the week-end and should do much good. It is expected to assist the milk-yield, which has been gradually receding. Turnip crops, which have not made a strike, could be resown, with a suitable variety and produce a good crop. There will be little hay saved in the district this season, the grass being required for feed. Grass in a few small paddocks has been cut and stacked, but other farmers are waiting for dry weather to cut or stack. The majority of sheep in the district has been shorn and several drafts of lambs have gone away. Oat crops are beginning to turn colour, and the harvest promises to be early and the crops light. A crop of wheat, the first sown in Kennington for many years, promises well, being already as high as the fence surrounding it and well headed. It remains to be seen whether the season will allow it to be harvested in good condition. FACTORY SUPPLIERS PICNIC A meeting of suppliers to the Kennington dairy factory was held to discuss the holding of a suppliers and district picnic. The balance-sheet showed a satisfactory credit balance. After a discussion it was decided to hold a suppliers and district picnic on January 22. It was stated that the picnic would be well attended, as none was held last year because of the infantile paralysis epidemic. The office-bearers for the year were unanimously re-elected, with power to add to the committee. * It was decided to hold the picnic in the paddock opposite the factory, if it was available. Collectors were appointed to canvass the district and the appointment of a handicapper and the arranging of the programme was left to a meeting to be held on Saturday night.
