EMPIRE EXHIBITION AT GLASGOW
LONDON, November 27. So keen has been the demand for space at next year’s Empire Exhibition at Glasgow that the organizers are finding it necessary to make preparations on a large scale. The exhibition will occupy 175 acres and will cost directly and indirectly over £10,000,000. The attendance is expected to be between 15,000,000 and 20,000,000. The people of Great Britain have backed the enterprise with a guarantee fund of £700,000. It will contain 70 palaces and pavilions and scores of smaller pavilions. Parking space has been provided for 10,000 cars, and an internal system of touring cars for the exhibition is being arranged. The services of gas, electricity, drains and water installed are large enough to supply a city of 500,000 inhabitants. Ten sub-stations will distribute electricity through 13 miles of underground cables and 240 miles of wiring. Five miles of new roads have been made.
