800-YEAR-OLD TREASURE FOUND IN CALAIS
' ENGLISH DOMINATION RECALLED CALAIS, December 27. Masons repairing an ancient house found a chest hidden in a wall containing gold pieces valued at 1,000,000 francs. They are of a type issued in 1139. . ~ It is believed that the owner hid his fortune when Calais came under English domination.
