EARLY HISTORY OF RIVERTON
SPECIAL CENTENARY SUPPLEMENT HISTORICAL ARTICLES AND ILLUSTRATIONS The growth and development of Riverton, which yesterday began the celebration of its centenary, are described in a special supplement issued today by The Southland Times. The supplement contains 12 pages of articles and illustrations of old identities of Riverton and landmarks of the district. The historical articles have been written for this number by Mr H. Beattie, of Waimate, the well-known
historian, whose year by year review of the first 75 years of Riverton entailed a considerable amount of original research. The founding of Riverton, its growth and the important part it played in the early days of the province provide fascinating material for the historical writer. All of this fascination will be found in the series of comprehensive articles in today’s supplement.
