GREETINGS FROM ALL PARTS OF WORLD FAREWELL BIDDEN TO MR A. E. FLOWER More than 200 members of the Christ’s College Old Boys’ Association and representatives of the association from several parts of the Dominion, gathered at the college to bid farewell to Mr A. E. Flower, who has been an assistant-master at Christ’s College since 1897. Mr Flower is widely known as a member of the Canterbury University College Council, a member of the Senate of the University of New Zealand, and through his active association with football, cricket and athletic clubs. Mr Flower has completed 52 years’ association with Christ’s College. He entered the college in 1886, later becoming a prefect and head of the school. His scholastic successes include _ a junior Somes scholarship and a senior Government scholarship in 1890 and 1891; a junior university scholarship and a students’ Somes scholarship in 1893, and a Canterbury University College exhibition in physics. and a senior university scholarship in 1895. He graduated B.A. from Canterbury College in the same year, taking the M.A. degree in 1896 with honours. in mathematics and mathematical physics. He completed a degree in science in 1897, and graduated M.Sc.. from the University of New Zealand in 1906. Always actively interested in sport, he captained the Canterbury College first fifteen in 1897, playing for the team for a number of years. He also represented the college in athletics and tennis in the first inter-university tournament held in the Dominion in 1901. Mr Flower joined the school teaching staff in 1897, and has been actingheadmaster on three occasions—from June to December in 1912, from May to December in 1914, and from September to December in 1920. Mr Denys Hoare, a former president of the association, spoke for the members. Telegrams were received from old boys in England, India, Canada, Australia, Malay States, and many parts lof New Zealand, conveying to Mr I Flower good wishes for the future. Nearly 600 old boys have subscribed to a list for a presentation to Mr Flower, and he was presented with a silver salver and a cheque. Mr Flower also accepted a present for his wife.
