GARSTON

A concert was held at the break-up ceremony of the Garston school, the pupils being prepared by Mrs Blakely, who has been relieving teacher for the last three months. A Christmas tree had been erected and Mr Wilfred Gordon acted as Santa Claus. Prizes were awarded to the pupils according to progress during the year, special prizes being given to Iris Soper and Margaret Bagley. Mr McMillan presided, and Miss Wraytt distributed the prizes. Reference was made to the fine training received by the pupils during Mrs Blakely’s period as teacher. Iris Soper, on behalf of the children, made a presentation to Mrs Blakely and expressed the regret of the pupils at losing her as teacher. During the afternoon several items were given, among them being a pianoforte solo by Miss Nessie Gordon. Mrs T. McLean contributed two songs, which were accompanied by Miss Edna Briggs. Mrs McMillan gave a recitation.
