FAST VOYAGE FROM JAPAN

SCHEDULE REDUCED BY THREE DAYS

(United Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 22. Making all possible speed to reach Auckland from Japan in time to land a cargo for the Christmas trade, the steamer Chifuku Maru, which berthed this morning, clipped nearly three days off her schedule, her voyage from Miike, via Noumea, taking 18 days. The Chifuku Maru, which was built in 1919 is the oldest vessel in the service and ’is on her last visit to New Zealand before she is replaced. Her time for the voyage is from two to four days faster than that recorded by any other ship of her class.
