Mrs G. B. Dickey, Don street, leaves this morning by car for Auckland. Mr and Mrs G. St. V. Keddell, Grey street, will spend Christmas at Garston Mrs Percy Priest, of Dunedin, will spend the Christmas holidays at Queenstown. Mr and Mrs B. W. Hewat, Russell street, and their sons leave on Friday to spend the holidays at Kakanui. Mr and Mrs Cyril McKay, Colac Bay, and their small son, John, have left io attend the Moeraki centenary celebrations.

Mr and Mrs H. F. Drewe, Gladstone terrace, and the Misses Drewe will spend Christmas at their cottage at the Rocks, Riverton. Miss Joan Priest, of Dunedin, arrives on Friday to spend the Christmas holidays with her aunt, Mrs C. B. Tapley, Dalrymple street. Mr and Mrs G. M. Todd, Alice street, and their son go on Friday to spend Christmas with Mrs C. J. Speight, Wether Hill, Ohai. Miss June Moffett, Dunedin, arrives on Friday to spend the Christmas holidays with her parents, Mr and Mrs G. I. Moffett, Louisa street. Mr and Mrs Edward Nicoll arrive from Christchurch on Friday to spend Christmas with their daughter, Mrs W. E. Hazlett, Filleul street. Miss Ellen Oliver arrives from Christchurch on Friday to spend a holiday with her parents, Mr and Mrs W. A. Oliver, Holywood terrace. Mr and Mrs Struan Watson, India, arrived in Invercargill last evening and are staying with Mr Watson’s mother, Mrs J. L. McG. Watson, Forth street. Miss Ada Gitler, Oamaru, arrives tomorrow evening to stay with her sister, Mrs J. R. Sutton, Eamslaw street. Later she will visit Mrs J. Chilwell, Underwood.

The engagement is announced between Norman Dryburgh, only son of Mr and Mrs R. W. McCreath, of Gore, and Joy Taiaroa, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs G. W. Reid, of Highgate, Dunedin.

The engagement is announced between Clifford Eric, youngest son of Mrs M.» Galbraith, M.8.E., and the late Mr R. Galbraith, of Stratford, and Phyllis, eldest daughter of the late Mrs R. Esplin, of Dunedin, and Mr C. Y. Esplin, of Gore. The nursing staff of the Dee street Hospital presented a concert on a recent evening to a big audience, in the nurses’ home. It was organized to raise funds to provide Christmas cheer for the patients. Two amusing plays were presented by Sisters Fitzgibbon, Small, Kevem, Rattray, Ferguson, nurses Riddell, Griffin, Matheson, Orr and staff-nurse Kerr. Songs were sung by Misses Joan Ward and Waterson, Nurse McHugh and Messrs P. McNamara and A. McKenzie (Nightcaps). Recitations were given by Miss Mary Thompson and Nola Little,. and a tap dance was performed by Miss Mcßain. Instrumental items were given by Miss M. Searle and Messrs Joel, R. Fraser and D. Collie. After supper, a dance was enjoyed to music played by Messrs Gordon Lindsay and D. Collie. Among those present were Matron Ross and Dr L. C. McNickle, of the Southland hospital.

ANNUAL DINNER

AMATEUR TRANSMITTERS At Elmwood Garden on Saturday evening the Southland branch of the New Zealand Amateur Transmitters held its second annual dinner. The president (Mr R. G. Kitto) was in the chair and a toast list and programme were received with enthusiasm. The function was attended by members of the Dunedin, Balclutha and Gore branches, and appreciation was expressed by the chairman at the big attendance. The toasts were interspersed with items given by Mr and Mrs Bingham, Mr and Mrs Strachan, Misses Thompson, Hoffman, Rizzi; Messrs V. Russell, H. Sutton, S. Rizzi, R. Woodward and R. Black. Lucky prize-winners were: Miss N. Crofts; Messrs H. Miles (Dunedin), S. Hunter, V. Russell, F. Hazlett, J. Sutton and W. Hollomby. Among those present were: Mr and Mrs F. Hazlett, Mr and Mrs H. On Sunday morning the visitors were taken to the Awarua wireless station, where they were shown over the equipment by the superintendent (Mr Heads). Mr Kitto thanked Mr Heads on behalf of those present for the interesting and instructive time spent, and Mr Heads replied.

WEDDINGS PRICE—PETERSON The wedding was solemnized recently at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Invercargill, of Thelma Ettie, daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Peterson, Kelvin street, Invercargill, to Roy William, eldest son of Mrs Price and the late Mr T. Price, Kauana. The Rev. C. J. Tocker performed the ceremony and the church was decor-

ated by friends of the bride. The organ was played by Mrs A. E. H. Bath. The bride entered the church with her father. She wore a frock of ivory delustered satin, embossed in chenille. It was cut on classical lines with high rucked sleeves and waistline. The slimfitting skirt fell into a long train, and tiny buttons trimmed the back and sleeves. Her' embroidered tulle veil fell from a halo of seed pearls. She carried a sheaf of arum lilies, roses and maidenhair fem.

The bridesmaid, Miss Mathel Bain, Dunedin, wore a redingote of green chantilly lace over satin with pink roses finishing the neckline. Her green cap was trimmed with pink roses, and she carried a shower bouquet of roses and abutilons. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Mr Thomas Price, as best man. The reception was held at Elmwood Garden. The guests were received by the bride’s mother, who was assisted by the bridegroom’s mother. Mrs Peterson wore a frock of brown lace over satin, with a brown silk velvet jacket and small brown chip straw toque. Her bouquet was of marigolds and maidenhair fern. Mrs Price wore a model navy blue ensemble with accessories to match, and she carried a bouquet of pansies, violas and maidenhair fern. The bride travelled in a blue French frock and a tailored coat and accessories to match

Before her wedding the bride was entertained at a number of gift afternoons given by friends in Dunedin and Invercargill. On their return from their honeymoon, Mr and Mrs R. W. Price will live at Benmore, Southland.

COUNTRY NEWS

WOODLANDS Mrs W. Coates, Te Anau, is the guest of her sister, Mrs A. Johnstone, for a few days. Mr and Mis G. Carran and their son, visited Fortrose last week-end. Mr and Mrs Robert Robertson and Miss Thelma Robertson have left to spend a few days in Dunedin. Mrs R. Wylie, Timaru, has arrived to spend Christmas with her parents, Mr and Mrs W. Sadlier.
