(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, December 20. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington: — Moderate to strong northerly to westerly winds. Weather warm and changeable, with scattered rains, especially in western and southern areas. Seas moderate, but rising. Following is the Dominion forecast: — Weather for the most part fair to fine, but unsettled at times in western districts from Taranaki southwards and the southern portion of the South Island, with scattered rains probable in those areas. Temperature 3 warm, particularly in

eastern districts. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone extends from the north Tasman Sea to beyond the North Island, and a series of westerly depressions is moving across the south Tasman Sea and the South Island. Winds. —Variable at first over the northern half of the North Island, otherwise northerly to westerly prevailing, force light to moderate generally, but gradually freshening about and south of Cook Strait. Seas.—New Zealand waters, rather rough in parts of the Cook and Foveaux Straits areas, otherwise slight to moderate, but later rising south of Cape Egmont; eastern Tasman Sea, moderate to fresh north-west to westerly winds, backing at times to southwesterly in the far southern portion; seas moderate but rising in the southern portion.
