LOVERIDGE BEATS RAYNER (United Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, December 12. Doggedness and ability to take punishment won for Tommy Loveridge, 9st 51b (Taranaki), the professional lightweight bout against Clarrie Rayner, 9st 61b (Blenheim). Rayner put up an excellent performance, receiving severe punishment. He remained game to the end, though knocked down eight times before the referee awarded the bout to Loveridge on a technical knock-out in the ninth round. BLATCH KNOCKED OUT BY FILIPINO (Received December 12, 6.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, December 12. Alf Blatch (9.13), the lightweight champion of Australia, was knocked out in the fifth round by Henry Burdett (9.12|), a Filipino, at the West Melbourne stadium on Saturday night.
