GUIDE NOTES

SONGS FOR THE CAMP FIRE (By BIG GUIDE) If the weather is fine the Camp Fira will be held at the comer of Bluff road and Dalrymple street, not Clyde street as previously notified. The stocking trail will pass Riversdale at 1.45 p.m., Gore at 2.45 p.m., Mataura at 3.45 p.m. and Wyndham at 4..30 p.m. These companies are advised that the Provincial Commissioner will probably come on the trail this year. I should be pleased to have the help of town guiders or rangers in sorting and packing at St. John’s rapger rooms at 5.15 p.m. Te Rama prints the following songs as suggestions for the Camp Fire. Unfortunately it is too late to consult with the commissioners, but it is requested that these be taken to the ceremony in case they are wanted. THE VILLAGE DANCE , The lanterns gleam, flames leap and play.. From vibrant strings wild music pours out; The rafters ring as forward come dancers gay, In movement swift they circle about Upon the fields and snow-clad country side, The moonlight falls in radiant sheen; The dancers tire, so open fling the casement wide To see the night in beauty serene. Seconds’ part:— Lanterns gleam, the bright flames leap and play, Wild and vibrant music pours out; and the Rafters ring as throng the dancers gay, in Movement swift they circle about. Here upon the snow-clad country side, The moonlight falls in radiant sheen; And the dancers weary, fling the casement wide To see the night in beauty serene. CALL JOHN THE BOATMAN Call John the Boatman, call, call again, For loud roars the tempest and fast falls the rain. John is a good man, he sleeps very sound . . His oars are at rest and his boat is aground, Red flows the river so rapid and deep, The louder you call him the sounder he’ll sleep. RISE UP, O FLAME Rise up, o flame. By thy light glowing. . . , . Show to us beauty, vision and joy. The guide notes will be published for the last time next week, and will begin again on the first Saturday m February.
