STATE CONTROL OF FOODSTUFFS

DUNEDIN OPPOSITION TO LEGISLATION

(United Press Association) DUNEDIN, December 7. The Dunedin Chamber of Commerce tonight passed a resolution expressing concern at the provisions of the Primary Products Marketing Amendment Bill, now before Parliament and expressing the view that it was doubtful if the industries concerned would reap benefits commensurate with the cost of the scheme. In the opinion of the chamber, Government control of most foodstuffs was impracticable and for that reason the marketing of these products was safer in private hands. The chamber also expressed alarm at this fresh evidence of Government encroachment on private enterprise and considered that individual effort should not be robbed of initiative and personal interest in producing and marketing.
