EXTRA DAY’S WORK FOR UNEMPLOYED
MAYOR GIVES SUPPORT TO CAMPAIGN
Support for the campaign to secure at least one day’s work before Christmas fox' all men on the State placement register is expressed in a letter which the Mayor (Mr John Miller) has sent to the Invercargill Placement Officer (Mr W. J. Wesney). “I heartily endorse the idea,” the Mayor wrote, “and any Invercargill citizen in a position to provide a day’s work will, by so doing, help someone in less fortunate circumstances than himself.” The ordinary sustenance payments will not be affected by the extra day’s work, the object of which is to assist the unemployed as far as possible to provide adequate Christmas fare for their families.
The campaign was instituted by the Auckland Placement Office, which has approached many organizations, asking their support and has communicated with placement offices in other centres
