GOOD BATTING IN ENGLAND
HAMMOND SCORES 3000 RUNS The batting of the leading English cricketers during the season just closed shows that on English wickets runs can be scored just as plentifully as in Australia. The following figures are those of a dozen of the leading English batsmen from whom the Test teams to meet Australia in 1938 will probably be se-
Eight of these made over 200 in an innings and one over 300. Eight scored over 2000 runs and two over 3000, while 11 averaged over 40 an innings. English wickets apparently are better than ever, and bowling no more destructive than it has been for some years. ENGLAND’S LEADING BOWLERS The bowling figures of men who may provide the attack of England are similarly interesting. G. O. Allen, W. Voce and K. Fames, who may be leading Test bowlers next season, hold modest positions on the following list.
