SUCCESS OF E. MITCHELL

Three Wins In Six

Races

TWO EVENTS TO IRON DUKE The Wairio Trotting Club was favoured with bright sunshine for its second non-totalizator meeting on Saturday, and a good standard of racing was seen under excellent conditions. The track was in good order and several close finishes .during the afternoon aroused keen interest in spite of the absence of the totalizator. The attendance showed a good increase on the inaugural meeting last year, the gate takings amounting to £36 as against £25. The various events were run off promptly, the enthusiasm of the honorary officials, at the head of which were Mr G. W. Gardner (president) and Mr John Egan (secretary), being responsible for the meeting being concluded on time. Mr J. Walsh was successful in his work as starter. Several trophies were presented during the afternoon by Messrs Todd and W. Gardner, during which the opportunity was taken to thank the donors for their support. Mr Gardner stated that it was evident that the popularity of the meeting was growing each year and when in a position to do so the club hoped to distribute even more liberal stakes. The Riversdale trainer E. Mitchell had a successful day and won three cf the six races. Aqua Bond won the chief event of the afternoon.
