WAIRIO TROTS

NON-TOTALIZATOR MEETING TODAY KEEN RACING PROMISED The Wairio Trotting Club will hold its second non-totalizator meeting today, and with strong fields engaged throughout, the western district centre should have an even more successful meeting than the inaugural fixture of the club. Trophies are attached to the majority of the races.

The back markers hold the best credentials in the. Ohai Trial Handicap, for square gaiters, and a trio, Imperial Wave, Appomatox and Blue Logan, may be expected to fight out the finish. Happy Peter was regarded as useful at one stage, but has not lived up to it. The Wairaki Maiden Handicap promises an interesting finish, as several of the contestants have shown useful form in saddle. Vice Regal finished fourth at the Invercargill meeting and Abel has several placings to his credit. Of the others Iron Duke, Fransol and Fortunate may show up. The distance of the Wairio Trotting Club Handicap, over two miles, may prove too far for a number of the runners. Aqua Bond won so well at the Southland meeting that it should take a good one to beat her. Desert Cloud and Overproof have both raced well over two miles and may take a part in the finish. Bright Voyage performed well enough at Forbury to suggest that this company should not be beyond him. Waitemata and Drumbunnif may stay on better than most and Vinola looks the pick of the others. The Duncan Handicap provides the square gaiters with a second outing, the class being similar to the opening race, but this time in harness. The novice pacers will also put in a second appearance in the Wreys Bush Handicap, over a mile and a-half.

The distance of the Nightcaps Handicap, a mile and a-quarter, should find Waitemata well suited and she may prove a class above this field. Vinola and College Boy may upset calculations on their home track, and Bright Voyage will again be a possibility. Earlier running will probably be the best guide. Acceptances are as follows:
