THE WEATHER MAINLY FAIR TO CLOUDY

WELLINGTON, December 3.
Following is the special weather forecast for Southland, as issued by the Meteorological Office Wellington: Light to moderate easterly winds, backing later to northerlies. Weather mainly fair to cloudy, but some scattered light rain in the eastern area. Seas slight to moderate. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather mainly fair in the western coastal areas, otherwise cloudy to overcast and, in places, misty with scattered light rains probable in the eastern districts. Temperatures cool to
moderate. General Situation. —An anti-cyclone still covers the Dominion but it is centred to the south. Pressure is low to the east and also over the greater part of Australia. Winds.—Southerly to easterly, strong in a few exposed positions on the east coast and in the Cook Strait area, but otherwise light to moderate. Seas. —New Zealand waters, a considerable swell south of East Cape, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea, moderate easterly winds, later backing to northerlies. Seas moderate. At one o’clock this morning the weather was clear and calm. The barometer readings for the last three mornings are as follows:— This morning (falling) 29.87 in. Friday 29.99 in. Thursday 29.95 in.
