“DICK” SHEPPARD DIES AT DESK

LONDON, November 1. Canon “Dick” Sheppard, whose death was announced yesterday, died at his desk during the afternoon while writing a sermon. A manservant, taking him a cup of tea, thought he had fallen asleep but found him dead. Moving scenes were witnessed when the news was announced at the evening services in St. Paul’s Cathedral and in St. Martin’s Church, Trafalgar Square. Mr Sheppard had lately taken a prominent part in the Peace Pledge Union Movement.
