Sir Benjamin Fuller arrived at Auckland by the Niagara from Sydney Mr W. J. Bennett, of Dunedin, has been appointed head master of the Winton School. Sir Robert Anderson arrived at Auckland on Monday from Sydney, after a business visit to Australia. Mr I. F. Thomson, town clerk at Milton, has been appointed town clerk at Northcote. —Press Association. Mr W. R. Patrick was reappointed sole selector at last night’s meeting of the Southland Cricket Association. Mr G. B. Dickey, manager of the '■"alder Mackay Company, Ltd., will leave by the express this morning for Christchurch. Mr R. Taylor left by the express for Christchurch yesterday to attend the biennial conference and annual meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council tomorrow and on Friday. Councillor A. H. Allen, a member of the Dunedin City Council for the past six and a-half years, will be a candidate for the Mayoralty at the municipal elections next May.—Press Association. Mr V. Raines, Transport Licensing Authority, was a passenger by yesterday morning’s express, being on his way to Wellington to attend a conference of Transport Licensing Authorities with the Minister of Transport.
Mr J. H. Reed, president or the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce, left by the afternoon express yesterday to attend the annual conference of the Associated Chambers of Commerce nt Timaru. The appointment of the Rev. R. George Coats, vicar of St. Luke’s parish, Mount Albert, as canon of St. Mary’s Cathedral is announced. The appointment was made to fill the vacancy caused by the elevation of Canon Fancourt to be dean of the cathedral. —Press Association. Mr W. E. Leadley, president of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association, will leave for Wellington on November 15 to take up a temporary appointment as Dominion organizer for the Soldiers’ Civil Re-establishment League. He is to continue to hold the position of president of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association. Messrs G. A. Russell (Dunedin), T. N. Wallace (Auckland), F. Busheil (Wellington), S. Owens (Dunedin), S. Goulter (Wellington), E. A. Adams (Christchurch), G. A. Blackwood (Dunedin), E. Anderson (Christchurch), M. Fitzgerald (Wellington), A. S. McRae (Timaru), W. J. Huxtable (Wellington), A. Engeland and P. Engeland (Christchurch) are guests at the Grand hotel. The Rev. Stuart Stevens, pastor of the Church of Christ in Moorhouse avenue, Christchurch, has received an invitation to become minister of the Enmore Tabernacle, the principal church in Sydney of the denomination, as successor to Dr A. McKenzie Meldrum, M.A., D.D. Mr Stevens has lived in Sydney and served several congregations there, having been in Christchurch since 1931. He is president of the Christchurch Ministers’ Association and the North Canterbury Christian Endeavour Union, and chairman of the Canterbury District Conference for Churches of Christ.
